Ivana Vozelj
B.1999 in Ljubljana
Lives and works in London
After having graduated with honours in BA Fine Art at the University of the Arts London, she took on a year of study in Venice, Italy at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, before coming to the RCA.
Mainly drawing inspiration from art history, philosophy and film, she seeks to evoke a tension in her work, exploring the absence of presence though a surrealist lens.
Ivana explores her own relationship with time, memory, and the haunt of nostalgia, as well as how that impacts a medium like painting, caught in the duality of remaining fundamentally unchanged throughout history yet still continuously evolving.
Bio
Her work typically follows and introspective narrative of recurring characters and settings, which all serve as extensions of her subconscious, looking to blur the lines between truth and myth, diving into false memories of the past whilst accompanied by an ever-present observer of the sea.
Ivana currently finds herself at a turning point of research and exploration, having studied the possibilities of conjuring hauntology though a cannibalisation of photography in painting, looking for ‘analogue materiality’ in the form of light leaks or palette choices reminiscent of film photography.
